Sewing for Beginners

Our beginners sewing workshop is a great introduction to this life skill whilst having a lot of creative fun along the way. 

Bring along your own machine and enjoy learning to sew in a small group and relaxed environment. 

In this beginner class, students will learn and practice basic machine sewing skills while making a basic project.

This course is suitable for absolute beginners or as a refresher course for those who haven’t sewn in a while. 

*During COVID: Students studying on-site at NSCC will be asked to assist their tutor in a post-course clean down of the room & anything used during this time. Please understand we are putting in strict protocols across the board to ensure the safety of our entire community.

Materials List

• You will need to bring your own machine, the manual or booklet for your machine, and any accessories that come with the machine. • Thread - please only buy good quality thread, I suggest Rasant or Gütermann Sew-All Thread in a neutral shade • Tape measure • Fabric Scissors • Thread snips or embroidery scissors • Seam Ripper • Pearl headed pins • 1/2 metre of woven cotton

Join our Mending Workshop with Bronnie.

You will learn simple ways to repair your clothing, such as sewing on buttons, repairing holes, embellishing with embroidery and the art of visible mending.

All materials are supplied.

This workshop is suitable for beginners.

Ages 12 and up welcome.

Continue your machine sewing creative adventure!

This class runs over 2 consecutive Tuesday evenings: 22 March and 29 March, 6:30- 9pm

Our machine sewing course continues your sewing journey with new techniques and skills.

Bring along your own machine and step up your sewing skills in this small group and relaxed environment. 

This course is suitable for people with previous machine sewing knowledge and experience with basic straight sewn garments/accessories, who want to continue to develop their skills for more complex projects.

Maximum 8 students.

Christmas Decorations - Machine Sewing Workshop

For those feeling crafty this season please join us to make something festive!

We will be sewing Christmas decorations. Great to decorate your tree or around the home. They also make great little handmade gifts.

This course is suitable for absolute beginners or as a refresher for those who haven’t sewn in a while. 

Please bring along your sewing machine, scissors, pins etc. Feel free to bring any fabric you may have or want to use, we will have plenty for you to use as well.

All other materials supplied, ribbons, beads etc as well as a little goodie bag to take home to keep on making!

7 Week Course

Cost: $275 / CREATIVE KIDS VOUCHER ACCEPTED

Starts 30 October

A kids sewing course to introduce them into this life skill whilst having a lot of creative fun along the way.

They can bring along their own machine or use one of ours.

We have a set program for beginner students so they can learn all the basics including to how to set up their own machine, how to cut fabric, construct seams, straight stitch, zig zag stitch and how to finish off. The teacher will provide materials for their first project. 

For students that have already done one of Bronnie’s courses or are a confident sewer, they can choose their own project based on their skill level. If not sure, Bronnie will have plenty of suggestions for you. 

For this level students will need to purchase their own materials required for their project. 

Join us and be part of a lovely small group with plenty of individual attention from the teacher, be creative, learn to sew, chat and make some new friends.
